Rathenower Optik relies on precision manufacturing in combination with state-of-the-art technology. The production includes a variety of manufacturing technologies. Each step in the production process requires a high degree of precision and quality control to ensure that the finished products meet the high standards of the Fielmann Group. Lens production, eyewear manufacturing and logistics ensure that Fielmann customers receive their glasses on time and in the best quality.
Lens production
Lens production is one of the centerpieces of Rathenower Optik GmbH. Here, tradition and experience from the city of optics are combined with innovative ideas and the possibilities of Industry 4.0. Our product portfolio includes single vision lenses, progressive lenses and room comfort lenses made from organic materials, naturally also with higher refractive indices. This makes it easy to produce slim and lightweight lenses, even for higher prescriptions. The use of our modern technologies also helps us to meet even the most demanding visual requirements.
The finishing of the lenses with various color processes, hard coatings and anti-reflective coatings enables a visual experience tailored to your wishes without having to compromise on durability. This enables us to reduce the residual reflex of the lenses to a quarter of the natural level and offer lenses in a wide range of colors.
Our specially trained quality assurance personnel continuously assess process results using state-of-the-art instruments and high resolution microscopes. Thanks to the expertise of our engineers and skilled employees, we offer one of the highest quality ophthalmic product portfolios on the European market. To ensure that our products always meet the requirements of our customers, every single lens undergoes both visual and machine- based inspections before shipment to verify its optical and geometric properties.
In combination with the fully automated transfer of lenses from workstation to workstation, we guarantee flawless delivery in the shortest possible time.

Glazing
The round, uncut lenses are now ready for their frames. At this stage, the traditional craftsmanship of optical professionals begins—the assembly of lenses and frames into a finished pair of glasses. We have centralized this process at our Rathenow facility. The eyewear manufacturing process officially begins as soon as the ordered lenses and frames arrive in production.
From this point on, the order embarks on its journey through the various process steps, supported by state-of-the-art conveyor technology.
First, the lenses are precisely edged by CNC grinding machines in our automated edging department. Once this step is complete, the order is ready for lens mounting, the most labor-intensive manual process in eyewear manufacturing. Here, skilled technicians meticulously assemble lenses and frames into a complete pair of glasses. The necessary expertise for this process is taught in our in-house training department.

As the last step, the completed glasses undergo a final inspection. Following strict quality criteria, the optical parameters and the precise fitting of the lenses are carefully examined. State-of-the-art lensometers are used to ensure that the production values match the original order specifications.
In addition to inspecting the lenses, our employees also check the frames for any defects or deformations. Only flawless glasses leave the house of Fielmann.
Logistics
The Fielmann Group's logistics department is responsible for the comprehensive supply of Fielmann branches and companies. Every day, we receive numerous deliveries of spectacle frames, sunglasses, lenses, contact lenses and merchandise from a wide range of suppliers.
Fielmann stands for tested quality. We therefore subject all products to strict testing in our own quality laboratory. Only after successful quality control are they processed further, transferred to spectacle and lens production or stored in our warehouse.
If a delivered product does not meet expectations, a credit note will be issued in accordance with our Fielmann customer promise. In order to guarantee short order throughput times and high delivery reliability, we ensure that all glasses and lenses manufactured by us that leave our factory by 8 p.m. arrive at the German Fielmann branches by 12 noon on the following working day. Through efficient picking, sorting and packing processes, we optimize the transport volume and reduce packaging material and transport capacities to the necessary minimum.
In addition to procurement, production and logistics as central tasks, the strategic planning and control of the supply chain is our specialty. Our goods flow management takes on this important task and ensures that all orders are processed efficiently and cost-effectively in line with customer requirements.
